The absolute gall of Obama. Biden and his neocon handlers have done more to ensure that our "children and grandchildren" will have no future at all beyond the first ATACMS launch or false flag attack on Ukraine or Russia.

Campaign clutter should always be returned to the DNC or RNC in its self-addressed envelope with a clear, assertive reply, consistent with "Go f#ck yourself!"

Seriously, to be able to write "return to sender" on all campaign mail! I'm afraid it'd just end up giving the underpaid mail carrier more garbage to throw away at the end of the day.

My carrier never opens my returned envelope, just the ABWD campaign worker, in this case, expecting a donation.

Oh boy this sounds fun.

I'm in Georgia so we got about 10 pieces of mail per day in 2020. I also got 5 texts/week approximately. Once Biden broke the rail workers strike and they wanted me to vote for Warnock in the runoff, boy howdy. Those people got a mouthful back in their text messages.

Well, you have to hand it to Biden's campaign team. I'm sure that isn't the last pitch from that great pitch-man , B.O. After all, look how well he drew all those suckers into the con with his pitch about "Hope and Change You Can Believe In" ! Of course, as Sarah Palin put it not so long thereafter, "How's That Hopey-Changey Stuff Working Out For Ya?". I'm not in her fan club, so naturally, her disappointments would differ greatly from mine; but still she rightly pointed out the emptiness of that campaign-time rhetoric.

At any rate, we know Biden gives us absolute zero reason for hope, and he already promised in his previous run, "nothing will fundamentally change". So that puts the lie to Obama's line that "Biden feels the struggles of American families in his bones", and certaintly to BO's promise that Biden will deliver a better future for our children and grandchildren.

But hey, this is nothing new under the sun for those the Party allows to rise to the top. Empty rhetoric, hucksterism and the big con. They don't have to do anything more than trigger, with evocations of mom and apple pie, the Pavlovian responses they hope will translate to votes.

"Obama is selling Joe Biden as 'delivering a better future for our children and grandchildren,'”

I'm always amazed how people are taken in by the use of words like "our", "we" and "us". It always reminds me of the old joke about what Tonto said to the Lone Ranger when confronted by a band of a thousand hostile Indians, "Who's we, white man"?

Caitlin Johnstone said it best, bluntest, and simplest in her Sep 14 rant “Barack Obama Belongs In A Fucking Cage.”

And she could have added every President, Vice President, Cabinet member, Senator and Congressperson, Federal Judge, and career civilian and military federal Bureaucrat who has been in Washington over the last 50 years.

Good one Bill, thanks for pointing out the DNC fatuousness which Obama parroted perfectly. I didn't vote for him the second time around, and by the time we ended his 8 years I wonder just how many Democrats had figured out that his golden oratory was as solid as hot air.

I get the same kind of stuff from the Republican side. It assumes I guess that the recipients are conditioned to respond to key words like some kind of Pavlovian dogs. Or the people in those "hate" sessions in Orwell's 1984.

BIDEN IS THE LATEST PRESIDENT TO TOUT THE VIETNAM WAR AS PROUD HISTORY by Norman Solomon / Scheerpost 092023

When Joe Biden flew out of Hanoi last week, he was leaving A COUNTRY WHERE U.S. WARFARE CAUSED ROUGHLY 3.8 MILLION VIETNAMESE DEATHS. But, like every other president since the Vietnam War, he gave no sign of remorse. In fact, Biden led up to his visit by presiding over a White House ceremony that glorified the war as a noble effort.

Presenting the Medal of Honor to former Army pilot Larry L. Taylor for bravery during combat, Biden praised the veteran with effusive accolades for risking his life in Vietnam to rescue fellow soldiers from “the enemy.” But that heroism was 55 years ago. Why present the medal on national television just days before traveling to Vietnam?

The timing reaffirmed the shameless pride in the U.S. war on Vietnam that one president after another has tried to render as history. You might think that — after killing such a vast number of people in a war of aggression based on continuous deceptions — some humility and even penance would be in order.

But no. AS GEORGE ORWELL PUT IT, “WHO CONTROLS THE PAST CONTROLS THE FUTURE: WHO CONTROLS THE PRESENT CONTROLS THE PAST.” AND A GOVERNMENT THAT INTENDS TO CONTINUE ITS MIGHT-MAKES-RIGHT USE OF MILITARY POWER NEEDS LEADERS WHO DO THEIR BEST TO DISTORT HISTORY WITH FOGGY RHETORIC AND PURPOSEFUL OMISSIONS. LIES AND EVASIONS ABOUT PAST WARS ARE PREFIGURATIVE FOR FUTURE WARS.

And so, at a press conference in Hanoi, the closest Biden came to acknowledging the slaughter and devastation inflicted on Vietnam by the U.S. military was this sentence: “I’m incredibly proud of how our nations and our people have built trust and understanding over the decades and worked to repair the painful legacy the war left on both our nations.”

In the process, Biden was pretending an equivalency of suffering and culpability for both countries — a popular pretense for commanders in chief ever since the first new one after the Vietnam War ended.

Two months into his presidency in early 1977, Jimmy Carter was asked at a news conference if he felt “any moral obligation to help rebuild that country.” Carter replied firmly: “Well, the destruction was mutual. You know, we went to Vietnam without any desire to capture territory or to impose American will on other people. We went there to defend the freedom of the South Vietnamese. And I don’t feel that we ought to apologize or to castigate ourselves or to assume the status of culpability.”

And, Carter added, “I don’t feel that we owe a debt, nor that we should be forced to pay reparations at all.”

IN OTHER WORDS, NO MATTER HOW MANY LIES IT TELLS OR HOW MANY PEOPLE IT KILLS, BEING THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT MEANS NEVER HAVING TO SAY YOU’RE SORRY.

When President George H.W. Bush celebrated the U.S. victory in the 1991 Gulf War, he proclaimed: “By God, we’ve kicked the Vietnam syndrome once and for all.” Bush meant that the triumphant killing of Iraqi people — estimated at 100,000 in six weeks — had ushered in American euphoria about military action that promised to wipe away hesitation to launch future wars.

FROM CARTER TO BIDEN, PRESIDENTS HAVE NEVER COME ANYWHERE NEAR PROVIDING AN HONEST ACCOUNT OF THE VIETNAM WAR. NONE COULD IMAGINE ENGAGING IN THE KIND OF CANDOR THAT PENTAGON PAPERS WHISTLEBLOWER DANIEL ELLSBERG PROVIDED WHEN HE SAID: “IT WASN’T THAT WE WERE ON THE WRONG SIDE. WE WERE THE WRONG SIDE.”

Mainstream political discourse has paid scant attention to the deaths and injuries of Vietnamese people. Likewise the horrendous ecological damage and effects of poisons from the Pentagon’s arsenal have gotten very short shrift in U.S. media and politics.

Does such history really matter now? Absolutely. Efforts to portray the U.S. government’s military actions as well-meaning and virtuous are incessant. The pretenses that falsify the past are foreshadowing excuses for future warfare.

Telling central truths about the Vietnam War is a basic threat to the U.S. war machine. No wonder the leaders of the warfare state would rather keep pretending.

re Noble Peace Prize winner Obomber [think Syria, Libya, Yemen, and the coup in Ukraine, and how “The Forever War” proceeded on his watch], i posted the following here on BV on August 17:

ENDORSEMENTS FROM A DIFFERENT BAND OF CRIMINALS, FROM A DIFFERENT SORT OF WAR: Perhaps the following would be better termed as “investments,” rather than “endorsements.” And that perhaps these “contributors” are better described as “owner-operators.” Whatever.

The following shows the Top 20 Contributors to Obama from 2003 to 2008, from the time of his run for the Senate up to his run for the White House. An interesting pattern emerges when you look for it.

One wonders why the business press (ie, the Wall Street Journal, Investor’s Business Daily, etc) is so frothed about the prospect of an Obama Presidency. It seems pretty safe to say that, at least for the Prime Movers and Shakers on Wall Street, he’s The Boy; one of Da Boyz, in fact. And, as a Boy, that he’s been one of Da Boyz since even before he was sent to Washington. God Only Knows how much money these folks have given him since he announced for 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue; or, especially, since the “Too Big to Let Fail financial ¢ri$i$ of 2008-9.”

Or ~ even more significantly ~ how much is unreported.

At any rate, here are The Numbers that led an old Army Buddy ~ a fellow Senior Noncommissioned Officer who is also Black ~ to observe that “Obama is the best Rich White Man’s Nigger that money can buy”:

Goldman Sachs $748,880

University of California $625,911

JPMorgan Chase & Co $493,469

Harvard University $473,669

Citigroup Inc $467,849

Google Inc $426,174

University of Chicago $424,539

UBS AG $423,045

Skadden, Arps et al $394,335

Lehman Brothers $393,324

National Amusements Inc $385,803

Microsoft Corp $380,735

Sidley Austin LLP $379,802

Kirkland & Ellis $376,164

Moveon.org $347,463

Morgan Stanley $341,320

Time Warner $338,677

Wilmerhale LLP $335,398

Exelon Corp $314,063

Latham & Watkins $299,650

That, of course, was once again then, and this, of course, is now:

“The Washington Post has reported that only a quarter of the roughly $600 million Obama has raised over the course of the campaign has come from donors who gave $200 or less. The rest of Obama’s money comes from the same high-end donors who’ve always played a disproportionate role in campaign fundraising. ... And Obama is taking advantage of a loophole that allows his biggest contributors to give as much as $70,100 in combined contributions to his cam-paign, to national and state parties and to various other campaign entities. ... The New York Times reported that Obama has received donations of $25,000 or more from about 2,000 donors.” (source: Truthdig.com, accessed 31oct08)

Of course, we are assured, one of Obama’s many first priorities once enthroned is to fix the problems with campaign financing that led him to bypass available federal campaign funding in favor of the far, far more lucrative alternative cited above.

THE REAL REASONS THE DERNA DAM IN LIBYA BROKE by Mnar Adley / MintPress News 092223

More than 11,000 people have been confirmed dead in the devastating floods in the Libyan city of Derna.

But corporate mainstream media outlets like the BBC, the New York Times, CNN and others would have you believe the destruction that has drawn worldwide headlines is due to climate change.

But here’s how this deadly disaster has everything to do with the Obama administration and NATO’s 2011 so-called “humanitarian intervention in Libya” to overthrow the country’s leader: Muammar Qadaffi.

The Derna dam was up for inspection in 2012, one year after the US and NATO bombed Libya into a failed state replete with open-air slave markets.

Before NATO’s bombing campaign, Libya was the most successful country in Africa.

The Libyan government offered its citizens free healthcare and free education, along with the right for all citizens to a home, subsidized electricity, water and gasoline.

Libya also had the lowest infant mortality rate and highest life expectancy on the entire continent.

But following the Arab Spring, the Obama administration, including Hillary Clinton and Samantha Powers and NATO states like France and the UK, saw an opportunity to overthrow Muammar Gaddafi soon after he announced a pan-African gold currency.

The Obama administration then spent over $1.7 Million supporting NATO’s bombing spree of Libya that pounded the country’s infrastructure with airstrikes and pumped rebels with money and weapons that took control over Libya.

And so, for more than a decade, Libya has been in a state of collapse.

IN EXPLAINING WHAT CONTRIBUTED TO THE CARNAGE AND TRAGEDY IN DERNA, MAINSTREAM OUTLETS FAILED TO POINT TO WESTERN IMPERIALISM AS A CAUSAL FACTOR AND THEY DIDN’T EVEN SUGGEST THAT THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR DESTROYING LIBYA LIKE PRESIDENT OBAMA, SAMANTHA POWERS, HILLARY CLINTON, DAVID CAMERON AND OTHERS SHOULD BE TRIED FOR WAR CRIMES.

Maybe because these outlets participated in manufacturing consent for the war to begin with.

Biden, forever the war monger, is now boasting about how the US invasion and destruction of Vietnam was "painful for both sides." Outrageous, despicable, shameful, disgusting. As many as 2 million Vietnamese civilians were killed and 1.1 million fighters as a result of the US illegal invasion and wanton bombing and destruction. Let's face it---Since he was first elected to the Senate in 1972 Biden has relished and given full-throttled support for every US invasion and war, every weapons system, and every increased military budget. His hands are soaked in blood. But you won't find that information included in any fund raising appeal sent out by the DNC. All the DNC can say is, "vote for Biden because the alternative is too dangerous." Really? As I said before, it appears that the 2024 election is going to be a choice between a sociopathic war monger and a criminal sociopath. Such is the state of the much touted "democracy" in the US. Meanwhile, the Global South continues to organize an alternative way forward, free from global hegemony. We are living through the first stages of the transition from a unipolar world to a new multipolar world that will respect the rights of each nation. The old system is dying, the new one has yet to be born. The interregnum will be filled with all kinds of twists and turns, and ups and downs....as well as moments of promise and moments of extreme danger. Hold on tight!!
