Is the Hillary Strategy Going to Work for Kamala?
Is it Enough to Pose as a Republican while Demonizing Trump?
It’s Hitler Week at Bracing Views.
I keep seeing the equation Trump=Hitler in the mainstream media, with various generals who worked for Trump in his first term now coming forward to accuse their commander-in-chief as a dictator-in-waiting. What are we to make of this?
A separate question is whether Kamala Harris can stop Trump as Hitler by using the Hillary Clinton strategy of 2016. You’ll recall that Hillary won the popular vote but lost in the electoral college. Throughout her campaign, she pivoted to the right, campaigning for Republican votes while estranging more than a few Democrats in the progressive base that would have much preferred Bernie Sanders as a candidate. Hillary also failed to campaign hard in important “swing” states, an oversight that the Harris campaign isn’t repeating.
Even so, one has to wonder whether the Harris campaign has a winning strategy. Is it wise not only to accept Dick and Liz Cheney’s endorsement but also to tout them repeatedly at campaign stops and on TV? Does it send the right message to allegedly undecided voters to align oneself so closely with the Cheneys, even campaigning with Liz Cheney and allowing her to speak for you at events?
Basically, Kamala Harris has adopted the Republican position on fracking, on immigration, on Israel and the genocide in Gaza, and of course the Democrats are more hawkish against Russia than Trump as Hitler. (Which is very strange, given that Hitler tried to destroy Russia from 1941 to 1945.) Like Hillary did, Kamala is embracing the “lethal” U.S. military and high-ranking generals. Harris is outflanking Trump on the right, thinking this is the way to defeat him, as Hillary attempted to do using similar tactics in 2016. Do Kamala and the DNC not remember how that ended?
If a Trump victory truly represents “the end of democracy” in America, is invoking the Cheneys and embracing many Republican positions the smartest way to defeat him? Is Kamala Harris, until a few months ago dismissed as a mediocre and largely forgettable vice president, the best person to stop Trump as Hitler from allegedly ending democracy and declaring a theocratic dictatorship where women will be reduced to handmaiden?
We’ll know soon enough on November 5th (I hope), but I have my doubts.
P.S. If you have a few minutes, it’s always educational to listen to Cornel West and Chris Hedges. Brother Cornel dismisses “the cheap jovialty” of the Democrats and Harris/Walz, asking instead for integrity, honesty, and decency. West is tired of the corrupt duopoly of the Red and Blue teams, knowing that we the people can and must do better.

The Democrats have been Republicans since Bill Clinton. There has been little to no difference on the policies that matter. So it seems unsurprising that Harris would hook up with the war criminals in the Cheney family. What is somewhat more surprising is that so many Democrat voters have been dragged to the far-right politically (endless wars, genocide in Gaza, censorship, and criminalization of speech and journalism) and they don't even seem to notice it has happened. As long as huge swaths of the US public are on board with the destructive policies of the Uniparty, things will just keep going downhill with no end in sight.
Harris seems to share the same morality as H. Clinton and Madeline Albright. In the CNN Town Hall, she basically said that people will just have to put up with genocide in Gaza if they want to get lower food prices.
Caitlin Johnstone called it - Harris is just a more telegenic form of fascism.
