Forget fascism and socialism, unregulated neoliberal capitalism is actually best described as organized crime, with the exception that the criminals are in charge of writing the laws, and therefore have made their criminality legal. There are still some questionable dealings, like Joe Biden's windfall payments from Burisma in Ukraine for getting the prosecutor fired, but it is not clear that he broke any laws in making those deals. That's because the laws were written by crooks. And now all that insider trading on Capital Hill goes on every day, and it is legal. So I find it useful to think of two waring crime families in DC, because then things start to make sense. They both have the same criminal intent, and just get irritated when the other crime family is getting more goodies than they are.

Although most senators and representatives make an annual salary of $174,000 (leadership positions get a raise), IT IS A FOOTNOTE FOR THE MORE THAN HALF OF THE ENTIRE CONGRESS THAT ARE MILLIONAIRES.

Under the 1978 Ethics in Government Act (EIGA), members may not have outside earned income greater than 15% of their congressional salary. HOWEVER, "UNEARNED" INCOME SUCH AS TAXABLE INTEREST, STOCK DIVIDENDS AND CAPITAL GAINS IS NOT SUBJECT TO THE EIGA.

THE MEDIAN NET WORTH OF MEMBERS OF CONGRESS IS OVER $1 MILLION, COMPARED TO THE NATIONAL AVERAGE SALARY OF $57,200.
