The DNC Wins, Democracy Loses, After Biden Pulls Out of Race
The selection (not election) of Kamala Harris as the Democratic Nominee
A headline from the British Guardian this morning captured the reality that the DNC has won, Democracy has lost, after Biden pulled out of the race yesterday:
US election live updates: top Democrats back Kamala Harris as donations surge after Biden steps aside
Vice-president says she will do ‘everything in my power to unite’ the party; ActBlue, the liberal political action committee, says $46.7m raised in hours since Biden withdrew from race.
There you have it: the key point. Money is gushing upwards to the DNC again! A veritable “surge” of it! Happy days are here again at the DNC.
I sure hope all that money is buying the “transparent” process of selection the DNC has promised.
It’s worth recalling that the DNC anointed Biden for the presidency in 2024, rather than having a competitive campaign season. Now that he’s unable to run, the powerbrokers are anointing Kamala Harris. Back in 2020, her campaign cratered as she couldn’t win a single delegate. Despite her lack of political acumen and her rejection by Democratic voters, Biden picked her as VP, though Jill Biden reportedly resisted that choice. Now Kamala is the heir-apparent, another marionette of those same powerbrokers.
Lee Fang has an article on Kamala that might have been titled: Will the real Kamala Harris please stand up? Her “principles” are remarkably flexible, which is another way of saying she’s a typical politician, always testing the wind, plotting a course of least resistance, one that is the most pleasing to the powers that be within the DNC and outside of the Party.
This is how Lee Fang put it:
How would Harris govern? What does she believe?
It’s a question that stumps even Democratic insiders who have worked with her for years. In her current role in the Biden administration, she handles a mixed portfolio, from the border to abortion rights to national security. Few would say she has left a lasting mark on policy.
Indeed. With respect to the border, her most famous words to immigrants were “Don’t come.” They came anyway. The Democrats promised to codify Roe v. Wade into law; they’ve never succeeded, mainly because abortion rights is a great issue to raise money on. And national security: from the Israeli genocide in Gaza, made possible by massive U.S. shipments of weapons and aid; the wasteful war in Ukraine; record-setting budgets for the Pentagon, which keeps failing audit after audit: Kamala’s record here has been disastrous, meaning it’s been perfect for an establishment that favors Israel, wars against Russia, and endless military spending.
Expect more of the same if Kamala Harris becomes president.
No democracy needed here. The donors decide. That's about all you need to know. The US isn't a representative republic (forget about a "democracy"), it is an oligarchy. I have always tried to stress to people how dangerous it is to let individual people, who may not even be mentally stable, to have billions, tens of billions or even hundreds of billions of dollars. Why that is not the sole subject of concern right now perplexes me. It is obviously an existential threat to humanity when a small number of narcissistic billionaires control the world.
I guess when you cut off your nose it really does spite your face. :p
