Today’s New Hampshire presidential primary takes the cake for bizarreness. On the Democratic side, Joe Biden isn’t even on the ballot. The DNC strategy seems to be this: Keep Biden off the ballot. If he loses, no harm done. He wasn’t on the ballot! If he wins with write-in votes, or even makes a strong showing, that proves Joe is the best and strongest candidate. C’mon, man! No matter what happens today, Joe wins! Here’s hoping for a strong showing by Marianne Williamson and Dean Phillips, Biden’s two rivals in the race. Yet, no matter what happens, the DNC will declare Biden to be the winner.
On the Republican side, DeSantis wisely dropped out, knowing from polls he was going to come in a distant third to Trump and Nikki Haley. DeSantis, showing he’s not completely gormless, endorsed Trump. The media is pushing a close race between Trump and Haley, but my guess is that Trump will win handily, unless a whole bunch of Democrats cross the aisle and vote for Haley as a spoiler to the Orange Jesus (Trump).
The media loves a race, so no matter how many (or few) votes Haley gets, I think she’ll be declared the winner (“a strong second-place showing”).
Strangely, Con Man Trump is more genuine on the campaign trail than most of his rivals, Republican and Democrat. With Trump, what you see and hear is pretty much what you get. With other politicians, you’re mostly getting a packaged product of talking points, empty posing, and broken promises.
Readers, what say you?
Funny that this is what "democracy" looks like in the US. People who most Americans don't want in office are our only choices. What should we call this; "duocracy"? "dumbocracy"? "deceitocracy"? "doubtocracy"? Or let's just call it a scam.
"What say you?"
I say we have a most bizarre primary process. Before 48 states have their say, the field is "narrowed" to who the hell ever the press has managed to soak with the most attention. The rules, regardless of party, ought to be: 1) you must be on the ballot in all states and territories; 2) you must participate in debates sponsored by a neutral commission such as the League of Women Voters; 3) there must be a price cap on campaign spending; 4) all elections must be held on the same three days spanning a weekend; and 5) all States must provided ranked choice voting. We might actually give some new blood a chance instead of enduring the same swamp creatures forced down our throat. No, I'm not holding my breath for a more democratic way.
