Good for Carlson. I'd like to see him interview Edward Snowden since he is in the neighborhood. That would get people yelling and screaming as well.

I saw Jen Psaki, complete with her new false eyelashes, going after Carlson. This is rich since Psaki was the official liar (aka spokesperson) for the State Dept. not so long ago before she went through the revolving door to NBC.

WJA, the session you had back in the service would have been better if those lecturing were telling you how to understand the people who direct what the armed forces do from the White House. That would mean they'd need to be experts in the irrational. Maybe real live Russians would have a better take on the White House than we do. All I can determine is that presidents as a rule have no trouble with killing anywhere in the world and love power so much they crave staying in office.

That is a GREAT Idea, Clif: Carlson interviewing Snowden while he's in the neighborhood. i wonder if he or his Team have thought about that.

There's a word for what Mr Carlson is doing with Mr Putin. It's called "Journalism."

For details, see THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH TUCKER INTERVIEWING PUTIN. IT'S CALLED JOURNALISM. Nobody Should Ever Apologize For Interviewing A Newsworthy Personality by Zaid Jilani / Publc 7 Feb 24 at https://public.substack.com/p/theres-nothing-wrong-with-tucker .

It will be very interesting to watch; and it will be even more interesting to read.

And Bill: Thank You for the verbal and visual references to Tolkien's Kingdom. They fir perfectly with the whole scenario.

The censorious have the paternalistic idea that the default setting of ordinary citizens is to be easily fooled. In 2024, yet.

This makes the censors appear as if they only want ordinary citizens to be fooled by THEIR side.

That said, I wish the interview had been done by Michael Tracey. https://www.mtracey.net/

Thought police are out in force on this one. The complicity of the press in policing our thoughts has created a vicious cycle with corporate media in the U.S. (and the West in general) losing credibility more rapidly with each passing day. "In 2023, just 32 percent of survey respondents said they trusted the media, either a great deal or a fair amount" source: https://digg.com/data-viz/link/americans-trust-media-timeline-visualized

Putin might roll out a map of Europe from 1914 and show how those borders established by Stalin et al are not sacred nor worth the live of all that cannon fodder, except to MICC profits.

Good for you for encouraging people to watch. And good for Carlson for doing the job that the rest of the media should be doing but would rather propagandize about.

TUCKER MADNESS IS GOOD FOR AMERICA by Scott Ritter 020824

The former Fox News talk show host-turned independent media phenomenon, Tucker Carlson, is in Moscow, where he has committed the mortal sin of interviewing Russian President Vladimir Putin. The interview is scheduled to air at 6 pm eastern time on Thursday, February 8. Let there be no doubt—Tucker Carlson has pulled off one of the most memorable journalistic accomplishments in modern history, and when the interview does air, it will—literally and figuratively—break the internet.

As someone who has travelled to Russia twice in the past year to engage in “people’s diplomacy” designed to advocate for better US-Russian relations, I applaud Tucker Carlson’s decision to go to Moscow and get this interview. The American people have been infected with a virulent case of Russophobia transmitted to them via a political and economic elite who have built a model of American relevance predicated on the need for an enemy capable of sustaining a military industrial and congressional complex by justifying an expansive budget that leaves America weaker and shareholders wealthier.

Just what America and the Planet needs: Trump on steroids.

It would be interesting to see if either could and/or would survive such a GoatFuck.

I guess all the US presidents and their cabinet officials who regularly held summits and other high level discussions with their Soviet counterparts during decades of what used to be called "diplomacy" were nothing but Kremlin stooges. Using the logic put forward by CNN, does that make CNN a White House stooge?

wrknight's avatar

I would like to listen or even watch, but I don't have an X/Twitter account and refuse to sign up for one.

The interview should be available on his website, TuckerCarlson.com, according to his promo, and no pay wall.

With or without X. The national narrative managers' hair are blazing already.

Gene Marx's avatar

Rather than "spin" or Putin's "slant" I'm hoping to hear his perspective on war and peace, alternatives to the national narrative being force-fed to many of my friends and neighbors through MSM stenographers. Minsk 2, the 2014 Maidan coup, the state of the conflict in Ukraine, and government censorship might even be broached during the upcoming hour-long exchange.

I became a Tucker Carlson viewer when he provided a platform for US antiwar voices on his War Machine segments on Fox. Journalists like Glenn Greenwald, Matt Taibbi, and Aaron Mate - banned from corporate news - were regular guests.

Bill Astore's avatar

Yes. But Putin's perspective will include "spin" and will be "slanted," for that is the nature of proclamations from government officials in all countries.

Gene Marx's avatar

It looks like I unintentionally struck a nerve, Bill. Sorry.

Frankly, I was surprised you used either of those descriptors, which I'm sure you'll agree give your piece a biased connotation. "Perspective," or more-accurately "viewpoint," is what I expect to hear in a Carlson/Putin interview. I also expect that most of my legacy party acquaintances (read, former friends) won't tune in because the "far-right", treasonous, "fascist" Tucker Carlson is in the driver's seat.

I.F. Stone was right. That's why the Fourth Estate is critical to effective democratic governance and why the US war machine needs to shut down journalists who push back. I hope TC doesn't disappoint today.

Bill Astore's avatar

No worries. I'd use the same two words for the spin and slant of Joe Biden. I'm guessing Putin will be more coherent than America's aging president, who is now seeing dead people:

While Biden begs for more money for the Ukraine slaughter and bragging he's wearing his Ukraine tie and pin. If he wants to be president of Ukraine, let's get that one way plane ticket to hell.

Aaron’s Party (Come Get It)'s avatar

I feel like Putin is willing to sit with Tucker for an interview because Tucker’s a known right-wing propagandist!

jg moebus's avatar

Good point, aaron. But Why would Putin want the services of a known right-wing propagandist? What would Putin be trying to get accomplished?

Aaron’s Party (Come Get It)'s avatar

I truly don’t think Tucker will be able to be critical enough. It’s an artificially manufactured interview to benefit both of their propaganda machines. Let’s see a Putin interview from MSNBC or CNN. It’ll never happen and I think we all know why!

jg moebus's avatar

Sorry aaron, but i don't know WHY MSNBC or CNN will never interview Putin. Why wouldn't they, if given the opportunity?

My guess is that they would, if for no other reason than that it would benefit Their propaganda machines as much as it benefits Carson's and Putin's machines with that interview.

Aaron’s Party (Come Get It)'s avatar

I mean they're not Putin puppets like Tucker, so I doubt an interview from a critical and liberal news organization would ever happen. Do you really think Tucker's going to be critical during the interview!? Truly laughable!

jg moebus's avatar

If i may ask: What is Your basis for claiming that Tucker Carlson is a Putin Puppet?

And what do You mean by "critical" as regards Carlson's interview with Putin? Critical of what? His policy in Ukraine?

My guess is that Carlson will ask Mr Putin to explain to the audience exactly what his policy in Ukraine was ~ and why it was, and still is.

That's one of the things that Journalists do, isn't it?

Jazzme's avatar

Hell yes I'll be watching.

Jazzme's avatar

Liked your last sentence Bill. All it takes is a functional brain.... Not many in Biden's cabinet think functionally. None in Trump's retinue.

Dennis did you see the stage show of Biden calling the parents of one of the soldiers killed in Jordan, telling them how he was posthumously promoting their boy to sargeant? Biden gets emotional over one death and we know he got emotional over his son Beau's death as well. Strange, then, that he can enable the killing of tens of thousands of Palestinians without a tear.

jg moebus's avatar

Back in 2015, did Trump ever bother to explain why he said that then second-term President Obama was not a leader?

Or if Obama was not The Leader, then Who was? And What, then, was Obama?

Ahhhh December 2015.... . The Dawning of The Age of Trump. And what a Time it was and what an Age it still is... .

jg moebus's avatar

It is very interesting to read what America’s [and Britain’s] MSM has to say about Carlson’s interview with Putin. Do a quick Google Search on it to see for Yourself.

Especially if You like the weeping, the gnashing of teeth, and the rending of garments, as they put it in the Old Testament.

If a critical factor in the survivability of a Nation [let alone an Empire] is its Media, the United States is doomed to extinction in the not-too-distant-future. Especially if either Trump or Biden becomes its next President.

John R Moffett's avatar

I wrote about the possibilities and ratings benefits of airing discussions with Putin quite some time ago. I am really glad that Carlson did this.
