“I love getting The New York Times daily summary of the news. It makes for great hilarity.”
Kinda like an inadvertent comics section, and it tops my take on their slogan, “All the news that we see fit to print.”
“At the very least, it should be Israeli-American war of aggression against Iran.”
Why hold back, let’s call it Israeli-American war of aggression on civilization in general?
“As Trump might say, it’s been a defeat for America the likes of which we’ve never seen before. No other defeat comes close.”
Nice. Sweet. “Back at ya!” “Hoisted on his petard,” Hamlet, Act III, Scene 4, a touch more literary and elevated, thus well beyond Trump, but thoroughly apropos.
One of my sailors who served on a PBR in the brown water Navy in Vietnam said they had gotten a new officer who was a petty tyrant who they feared would get them all killed. One day the officer came into his tent and there was a grenade (with the pin in) on his bunk. The command transferred the officer out that day.
I'm wondering how and when that will be repeated for Trump. I don't see Israel or the Zionists here putting up with any restrictions on Israeli actions.
Hmm. So the boat crew camped on ground, eh? I guess those boats didn't have room for living quarters. For a good overview of anti-war resistance over a greater period than just Viet Nam, see "Turning the Guns Around" (has a long subtitle) by John Catalinotto.
Bill, I admire your tenacity in continuing to read the Times, and exposing the propaganda narratives embedded in the CIA-influenced writing. Judith Miller and the Iraq War cheerleading was when I cut bait for good. Still far too many in the liberal class whose allegiance to the NYT puts them in a similar cult status as those swayed by MAGA influencers.
Personally, I "rely" on CNN online (haven't had cable TV since 2019) to at least get a general idea of what's going on in the world. I take their content with big grains of salt, of course. I severed my NYT digital sub. not too long ago after they ran a story in guise of "straight reporting" (i.e. not an editorial) that treated "Antifa" as if it was a real "thing" and not the straw man invention of the Fascist Right.
I follow 20-30 writers/analysts I trust, with track records of being consistently correct on domestic/foreign policy discussion. Many have their own substack/youtube channels and often appear as interview guests on other platforms.
Hello Bill Astore... This is a Good, Frank Posting... Ben Gvir, who should be on Anti-Psychotic Drugs, embodies the Brain of Rabid Contemporary Israel now... I have sympathy for the Lebanese...
As I think of how more and more citizens in the U.S. are beginning to see Israel's aggressions and their need to seize land, I am reminded of the following quote by William James. It has taken a long time for the water of information (yours is a key fountain) to rend the imagery of the Israel I grew up with in the 50's and 60's, even though those committed to maintaining the fiction of that Israel still hold more power than they should.
“I am done with great things and big things, great institutions and big success, and I am for those tiny, invisible molecular moral forces that work from individual to individual, creeping through the crannies of the world like so many rootlets, or like the capillary oozing of water, yet which if you give them time, will rend the hardest monuments of man's pride.”
Hezbollah is a Shi'a militia, formed because of decades of IDF aggression, who protects Shi'a areas in S Lebanon. They are a political party which MP's.
The Lebanese government is a construct of the US/Israel.
Here who names a terrorist is the terrorist.
BTW the IRGC closed the Strait last night local time.
That Hezbollah was founded in the aftermath of the massacres at Sabra and Shatila, committed by Christian Lebanese militias supported by the IDF is just another inconvenient fact that's been long forgotten
CNN today says Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz again because of new Israeli assaults on Lebanese territory. Very few oil tankers reportedly had made it out prior to this anyway. So those dropping gasoline prices at gas stations? Bye-bye. Let's put the Lebanon situation in perspective. Lebanon has been basically a "failed state" for 45 years or more. I have great sympathy for the folks trapped there. Decades ago Israel seized Lebanon's southern region and created a puppet military, the "South Lebanese Army." Shades of the "ARVN" during the US war against Viet Nam. No significant objection to this aggression came from the US Government of course. US Marines were sent in and 242 lost their lives when their barracks were blown up. Amazingly, the brain-dead Reagan listened to a wise adviser and pulled the Marines out. Gee, what happened to the slogan "These colors don't run"??? What passed for government in Lebanon changed multiple times; at one point they were Fascists called "The Phalange." (A name used by Franco in Spain I believe.) This CHAOS--a prime US export-- is what allowed "The Party of God [Allah]" a.k.a. Hezbollah, to emerge as the only fighting force that could try to defend the people against ongoing Israeli aggression. To what extent Hezbollah actually "acts on behalf of" the regime in Iran I can't say, but that is the accusation made for many years now to "justify" military assaults on (alleged) Hezbollah forces. Summary: The US, with its relentless support of Israel, is responsible for the current debacle. Any fair-minded observer should support the demand "US and Israel, hands off Lebanon! Let the Lebanese live!"
The historical omission by the MSM War Propagandists is Israel caused Hezbollah to come into being in reaction to the 1962 Israeli invasion of Lebanon. Israel created Hamas as the counterweight to the PLO.
You're right. It really will come down to just how dumb Trump turns out to be and the limits to Israeli extortion. As for the NYT...can we expect any less. I don't think so, they always scrape the bottom of the barrel.
You must mean: Larry Ellison provided approximately $6 billion of the $8 billion required for his son, David Ellison (Skydance Media), to acquire Paramount Global (CBS's parent company) in August 2025. Bari Weiss works at CBS and may soon manage CNN. Her NYT days were over in 2020 when she created the so-called Free Press. Like I said ...the bottom of the barrel.
Hello Wilrodx... Bari Weiss gained notoriety at the NYT which she Leveraged... Bari, along with the Ellisons are Zionists... There is also Sheikdom $$$ involved in the Paramount Deal...
Waking up at 5am I turned on Morning-Joe at 6. What he said moved me to send the following X. Being so early the stats to my blog showed the 1st view of the day was the live link in the X. Whoever screens Joe's X account followed the live link, a positive indicator
Returning to the living room, Joe was interviewing Arnold Schwarzenegger talking morality so I had to extend the X thread as seen following.

Joe, get real! The US is the biggest ARMS Merchant in the History of Nations. The US Military-Industrial Complex is making a KILLING off the illegal WAR the US STARTED.
You are blind to the Spiritual reality unfolding in this Money loving & serving Material World.
This WAR is the beginning of Armageddon, the great day of the battle of Almighty God in the Revelation of Jesus Christ 16:13-16 between Theocratic Israel & Theocratic US Christian Nationalism and Theocratic Iran.
It's not the Will of God, but the Will of deceived powers and a willing population.
For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. Revelation 16:14
With the living Bible, the kings of the earth Today are Billionaires, Presidents, Prime Ministers, CEOs and other idols of the People
The Writing is on the Wall!
Hopefully you'll wake up before it passes the point of no return, instead of acting like the 5th Horseman of the Apocalypse.
That's VP Rockefeller giving me the finger during the 1976 Republican National Convention in Kansas City being so PO'd hearing my words that gave Senator Dole and his friends such a laugh.
Thank you for taking the time to send me your kind words of support.
Your encouragement gave me a big boost, and it reminds me that we are moving in the right direction.
I am working hard to improve California's future and make progress in a difficult budget year.
We've tackled politically risky things that no one wanted to touch in the past, and to me, that's progress.
We now have the potential to make a positive difference in the lives of future generations by confronting problems that have been put off for many years: building up our infrastructure, reforming health care and education, and finally fixing our broken budget system.
Again, thank you for your kind words of encouragement.
Schwarzenegger embodies a decent amount of common sense (like on environmental issues)--something Trump claims as a strength in his own character!--but when is he going to be sufficiently disgusted with the GOP to publicly split from them?? I mean, come on Arnold, get real!!

Great quote. You don't see too many quotes from the great William James these days.
