The problem is that even before the MSM became as skilled as it is now in controlling the narrative, there was reporting of the horrors and lies in other places (e.g., Vietnam, Central America, the West Bank) and people chose to forget. I think it comes down to a quote by Milan Kundera: The struggle of man against power is the struggle of memory against forgetting. We can't succeed if as a people we forget what we see.
I am working on an article on this topic, where as far as I can tell one major issue with forgetting has a lot to do with tribal/team behavior. It is very easy to discount what your own team has done wrong, whereas memory about what the other team supposedly did wrong is lasting. A lot of money has been spent on figuring out how to manipulate people based on their cognitive weaknesses. There are those who say "God is nowhere" and others who say "God is now here." I say, look within yourself, try to find some spark of goodness. Don't look to a "higher power" to save you.

You tend to focus all your critique on the Christian flavor, I suppose because you were raised Christian.
Believers tend to do what they want, then cite God for support. The problem isn't "God" per se; it's we humans using "God" as an excuse or rationale for whatever it is we wish to do.
It would be very interesting to find out how many Christians regard their God, aka "The Father," to be the same God as the Jews' "YHWH" or the Muslims' "Allah."
And how many Jews think their YHWH is the same as Allah and The Father.
And how many Muslims think Allah is the same as YHWH and The Father.
