So Trump is going to turn Gaza into a “new Riviera”. But, as you say, it won't be for the Palestinians, obviously. However, it won't be for the average Israeli, either. Or any other average person. It will become the Mar-a-Lago on the Mediterranean - the playground of only the very, very, very rich. $1B minimum cover charge.

Just think. A 141 square mile seaside country club for the privileged class.

Serious question: how will they get rid of the stench of all those decomposing bodies?

Expand full comment

60% of the body is liquid and the solid & liquid molecules will break down and be absorbed by the Earth below. In the Fires from the bombings the bodies would be essentially incinerated. Bones take much longer to decompose...

It will probably take as much money as cleaning up a nuclear waste site, but Trump won't have any problem pumping taxpayer money into it. He'll probably get Musk to tap into the Treasury accounts.

Have been following Trump only vaguely before he came down the escalator. thought him absurd.

Then he won the presidency and became the most evil guy ever. My big takeaway about the man was that he was unpredictable, much of what he said was for effect.

The total Gaza ethnic cleansing thing has no chance and Trump knows it. So why did he say it? Don't know, but I hope it was to give Bibi a hard time.

No Arab state can agree to this without the absolute disaffection of the people. Non-Arab muslims will attack it.

Maybe Trump, the lame duck, is just saying something for effect and to get some time and run out a clock.

Nothing ever goes right for the US in the Middle East and if Trump realizes it, he gets reality which is rare in American politics.

Just a guess, I stand behind none of it.

You just never know with Trump. He could turn on a dime tomorrow and disavow his "plan."

Or he could just never mention it again and then say something else. Maybe come up with the Trump Gaza Coin.

I do not think that this is going to occur. Not that Trump does not want it to, he does. So does the smug, smirking genocider who was sitting next to him. It likely will not happen because even the ignorant Trump and his war mongering Zionists in the administration know that this would set the entire Middle East on fire and drag the US into a quagmire that would be Vietnam, Iraq II, and Afghanistan combined on steroids. Also, it would, if successful, see the outright removal, and wholesale slaughter of a population with US troops at the forefront. Granted the US has been here before, but there was no social media covering what the US did to the American Indians.

I think instead it does two things. One, it sets up a continued Israeli campaign of slaughter of the Palestinians. Israel will tank Phase II of the ceasefire, blame Hamas and restart its murderous campaign. Israel is willing to play the long game of slowly grinding the Palestinians into dust for the sake of one day getting all the land.

The other thing it does, is distract from Israel’s more immediate goal, which is formal annexation of the West Bank, which it views as more valuable real estate. This will, of course, have full US blessing. Of course, in all of this it will be the least of these who will suffer. The sickness in both US and Israeli society runs deep.

Expand full comment

The sickness constitutes the real Axis of Evil and further, represents a stain on all humanity.

Thank you for pointing out that Trump and Biden had the same policy re: Gaza, but that Trump says it out loud, while Biden pretended to promise a ceasefire, but could never commit to even that. The corruption and lack of empathy are bipartisan.

The Libertarian National Committee of The Libertarian Party just issued this “Resolution Urging the United States Congress to End Military Support to Israel and Cease Global Expenditure of U.S. Taxpayer Dollars.” It’s is criminal ~ if not criminally insane ~ that the Republican and Democratic National Committees will do no such thing... :

“WHEREAS, continued U.S. military support to Israel exacerbates tensions in the Middle East, increasing the likelihood of a direct war with Iran that would unnecessarily drag the United States into another costly conflict;

“WHEREAS, U.S. ties to Israel present significant conflicts of interest, especially through the lobbying efforts of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), which perpetuate a deep-rooted influence on American politics to the detriment of U.S. sovereignty and the principles of non- interventionism;

“WHEREAS, the Israeli government has committed acts that constitute genocide against innocent Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, including the use of excessive and indiscriminate military force that has resulted in significant civilian casualties;

“WHEREAS, the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) has committed war crimes during its ongoing conflicts with Palestinians, actions that violate international human rights and humanitarian law;

“WHEREAS, the Libertarian National Committee recognizes the atrocious acts committed by the IDF against the USS Liberty, an unprovoked and deliberate attack that killed 34 American servicemen and wounded 171 others, and condemns this act as both kinetic and philosophical in its assault on U.S. interests and principles;

“WHEREAS, the United States government has recklessly spent taxpayer dollars on foreign military and domestic military industrial complex expenditures, placing an undue burden on the American people through taxation and inflation, violating the principles of fiscal responsibility;

“WHEREAS, the Libertarian Party opposes foreign intervention, including military aid that perpetuates conflicts and undermines efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East;

“RESOLVED, that the Libertarian National Committee calls upon the United States Congress to immediately cease all military aid and support to Israel, ending U.S. involvement in perpetuating conflicts in the Middle East;

“RESOLVED, that the Libertarian National Committee condemns the actions of the Israeli government, including its genocide of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, its war crimes, and its persistent violations of international law;

“RESOLVED, that the Libertarian National Committee specifically condemns the lobbying efforts of AIPAC and its undue influence on American politics, calling for the severing of ties that compromise U.S. independence and sovereignty;

“RESOLVED, that the Libertarian National Committee calls for a formal recognition and public condemnation of the Israeli Defense Force’s attack on the USS Liberty as an act of aggression against the United States;

“RESOLVED, that the Libertarian National Committee urges the United States Congress to cease the global expenditure of U.S. taxpayer dollars, instead cutting those expenditures from the Federal budget and removing the burden on the American people;

“RESOLVED, that the Libertarian Party commits to advocating for a foreign policy based on non- interventionism, respect for sovereignty, and peaceful diplomacy, urging the U.S. government to prioritize the interests of the American people over foreign entanglements.

“RESOLVED, that the Libertarian National Committee supports the cease-fire in Gaza, and encourages both sides to seek permanent armistice, tend to humanitarian needs, and reach a deal that supports lasting peace.

Trump has the mind of a ten year old; things are simple, you just jump in and do things and all will be well. He speaks as if the Palestinians were living in Gaza as they did because they liked it that way. Far from it, the place was a prison deprived of almost everything and with even the essentials of power and tap water controlled by Israel and unpredictable.

The topper was him saying that Palestinians could live in Trump Gaza along with others, what a privilege for some of them, even as ethnic supremacist Israel would remain next door where no Palestinians would be welcome. It is just one more of his fantasies that he is determine to shove down the throat of the recipients.

I think of his statement of a few years ago that "Mexico doesn't send us its best" an equally foolish statement that implies Mexico is directing people to the US when it is the people themselves, desperate, who are on their own going north with nobody "sending them"

I was on the street today with my two new signs stimulated by Trump and his war criminal buddy, Netanyahu. See here: https://substack.com/home/post/p-156510031

Based on what has happened in the first 16 days of TRUMP 2.0. i believe that this Nation is as close to a fully operational and functional Totalitarian Dictatorship as it has ever been in its entire history; including during the days of FDR and his Braintrust back on the eve of World War II.

Consider the post-9/11 PATRIOT Act, the Section 702 of the FISA, and The COVID Lockdown as practice warmups.

What is particularly disturbing about that is that a significant number of Americans would WELCOME a Dictatorship; as long as it is her or his gal or guy who is the Dictator.

The Gaza, and West Bank Initiatives are Extremely Dangerous for the USA... View the Press Conference with Netanyahu today... Seems that DJT is deteriorating Rapidly, and Netanyahu looks like that Alley Cat that just swallowed the Canary... Will the US Public Welcome being involved in a Guerilla War in Gaza just so there can be a Kushner/Trump Resort? Netanyahu definitely got the better end of the Deal... So much for DJT's Deal-Making Skills... This will aid Netanyahu by providing cover for the IDF to withdrawal... The insertion of U.S. forces could put the USA in another Guerilla War, and paint a Target on every American in the Middle-East... Once again, Israel would WIN. USA Lose... DJT has been bought, and has gone insane...

Trump sees himself as the master of the universe - but he's surrounded himself with fervent christian nationalists (praying for the temple in Jerusalem to be rebuilt) and zionists. Whatever his actual intent, he may find he's not in control of as much as he thinks; they ignored him last term when he ordered the troops out of Syria.

The other issue is if this plan moves forward I think the 'MAGA' base is going to rebel; as more than one said in comments I read, 'I did not vote for this'. Particularly true, if the plan moves forward and body bags start returning home with dead Americans.

One other thing. Images count for everything and there's a photo of Trump standing behind a chair helping Netanyahu slide forward to a table. It may have been to help an ill man (monster though he is). But the image of Trump (wearing a blue tie) standing behind a seated Netanyahu (wearing the power red tie) reveals who's actually in charge more than hundreds of written words.

Totally agree that tackless Trump is once again saying the quiet part out loud. In his mind--sell them on a nice new home in some imaginary new homeland. If we won't stop the bombs, I guess this is the lesser of two evils? Syria seems up for grabs. I'm surprised he's not just assumed ownership of it and lined up the convoys to get the Palestinians on the move.

Probably not enough oil, other natural resources or lovely beaches to make it worth his while. However, Given Syria is essentially a failed state, he could easily make it the dumping ground for the Palestinians.

Greetings Bill et al!

Two Days in this faster and faster Age of Trump Shock and Awe, seems like a longtime since your latest thoughts and perspectives.

I have read Greg Palast, but this is the 1st Time seeing him on video being questioned by Tom Hartmann.

I distinctly recall Trump calling his supporters to come to Washington not on January 5 or 7, but on January 6, telling them IT WILL BE WILD! As an ignorant Canadian watching what's unfolding in the US Goliath, I was not aware of the great significance of that particular Day, Legally certifying the winner of the 2020 Election in a Peaceful change of POWER.

Only Republicans, terrified of the wrath of Trump supporters, are now in denial of that Day in US History. The World saw Trump supporters tried to overturn the Peaceful transfer violently.

Having lost, in the 4 years of the Biden Administration, his supporters took over State control of the Election process and voter rolls, planing the "Shock and Awe" to overwhelm the US People with everything everywhere all at once happening.

Greg Palast is among the last of genuine Investigative Journalists, working for the Truth and Reality, not just for the big MONEY.

I believe his assertion Trump stole the 2024 Election. With all the Trump projections of the Good Things he will make happen if he's elected, even saying before he was elected, elections would no longer be needed under him. I believe with Trump's History, he could make the American Dream a Nightmare!

Only those who don't care don't speak up!

The Rutherford Institute’s John W. Whitehead concludes In his 22 Jan 25 piece ~ FROM PRESIDENTIAL POWER GRABS TO MARTIAL LAW ~ as follows: “Hitler’s rise to power should serve as a stark lesson to always be leery of granting any government leader sweeping powers”... :

That didn’t take long.

Within days of Donald Trump’s second term, the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights disappeared from the White House’s website.

While the Trump Administration insists the removal of these foundational documents will eventually be restored to the site, the timing and symbolism of their removal is hard to ignore. Especially in light of the flurry of executive orders issued by President Trump as a means of bypassing the very rule of law those documents were intended to ensure.

Already, Trump has unilaterally declared two national states of emergency, announced his intention to disregard the 14th Amendment’s assurance of birthright citizenship, established two new government agencies, and pushed for an expansion of the death penalty.

So much for the Founders’ efforts to guard against this kind of concentrated, absolute power by establishing a system of checks of balances that separate and shares power between three co-equal branches to ensure that no single authority is entrusted with all the powers of government.

Mind you, Trump is not unique in his use of executive orders to bypass Congress and unilaterally impose his will upon the nation, but it is indicative of the fact that he, like his predecessors, will continue to serve as an imperial president, using executive orders, decrees, memorandums, proclamations, national security directives and legislative signing statements to operate above the law and beyond the reach of the Constitution.

America, meet your latest dictator-in-chief.

Be warned: what is happening right now is political theater. Allow yourself to be distracted by it, and you will miss the real power play afoot: the expansion of unaccountable presidential power that exposes us to constitutional peril.

The Deep State is counting on us to be distracted.

Don’t fall for it.

We must be particularly leery when political promises to fix everything that is wrong with the nation are dependent on presidential power grabs and manufactured crises.

That’s the oldest trick in the book.

Whether the ends justify the means is never the point.

It is especially when the ends seem to justify the means that one must tread with particular caution.

That’s how we landed in this mess in the first place.

Power-hungry and lawless, the government has weaponized one national crisis after another in order to expand its powers and justify all manner of government tyranny in the so-called name of national security.

As a result, we have become a nation in a permanent state of emergency.

That indefinite state of crisis has remained constant, no matter which party has controlled Congress and the White House.

The seeds of this present madness were sown almost two decades ago when George W. Bush stealthily issued two presidential directives that granted the president the power to unilaterally declare a national emergency, which is loosely defined as “any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions.”

Comprising the country’s Continuity of Government (COG) plan, these directives (National Security Presidential Directive 51 and Homeland Security Presidential Directive 20) provide a skeletal outline of the actions the president will take in the event of a “national emergency.”

Jonathan Cook extends this article even further, Bill

'The Gaza ‘war’ was a lie, as is the ceasefire. Trump just told you'

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to the White House this week tore the mask off 16 months of gaslighting by western leaders and by the entirety of the western establishment media.

United States President Donald Trump finally dropped Washington’s sugar coating of Israel’s genocidal destruction of Gaza.

This was always, he told us, a slaughter made in the US. In his words, Washington will now “take over” Gaza and be the one to develop it.

And the goal of the slaughter was always ethnic cleansing.

Palestinians, he said, would be “settled” in a place where they would not have to be “worried about dying every day” – that is, being murdered by Israel using US-supplied bombs.

Gaza, meanwhile, would become the “Riviera of the Middle East”, with the “world’s people” – he meant rich white people like himself – living in luxury beachfront properties in their stead.

If the US “owns” Gaza, as Trump insists, it will also own Gaza’s territorial waters, where there just happen to be fabulous quantities of untapped gas to enrich the enclave’s new “owner”. Palestinians have, of course, never been allowed to develop their gas fields................................................
