And now, the very real question is, are the civilians at the pointy end going to be U.S. citizens? Are we going to find out what it's like to be Gazans? Chickens, roost, and all that. Not saying that it's right when it's "other" civilians who face the guns and bombs. Saying it's plain wrong, period, and karma will out.
U.S. citizens have been at the "pointy end" for almost 200 years - democracy comes from the end of a gun. The State is the enforcement arm of business. Business and govt are the durable entities, the grain and straw - citizens are the chaff.
Hugo Sim's book and Chris Hedges Books The Greatest Evil is War should be mandatory reading before recruits sign up for the military. Further they should be examined on it to see if they understand.
Subject: A Prophetic Warning from 1976 - Now Unfolding Before Us
Greetings from Hull Senators,
Forty-nine years ago during the 1976 Republican National Convention, as a Canadian, I found myself unexpectedly standing at President Ford's podium in view of the compressed crowd of delirious Republicans in the Lobby of The Crown Center Hotel as a Secret Service agent questioned me at length, finally asking "Are you Jesus Christ?" Having no illusions about that THEN and NOW, emphatically answered "NO!" The next question was just as surprising, "Who are you then? A prophet?" That I could not answer as definitively. You have access to the Secret Service records of my Time at that Republican Convention.
What followed was a prophecy published in The Kansas City Times on September 13, 1976:
"He came to town for the Republican National Convention and will stay until the election in November TO DO GOD'S BIDDING: To tell the World, from Kansas City, this country has been found wanting and its days are numbered [...] He gestured toward a gleaming church dome. “The gold dome is the symbol of BABYLON,” he said.” [...] He wanted to bring to the Public’s attention an “idea being put out subtly and deceptively” by the government that we have to get prepared for a War with Russia.”
That 1976 FUTURE is NOW with the Revelation of the details GENERALLY unfolding in the spirit of the 1976 letter.
The World is waking up to see Americans may hasten “its days are numbered” part of the 1976 Vision, and waits with bated breath.... The historical record continues, ¨There are 30 months before the fate of the world will be sealed with EITHER Destruction OR the Universal Brotherhood of Man,¨ he said. ¨The 30 month figure concerned a Treaty between Israel and Egypt.¨
NOTE: This does not say Armageddon happens in 30 months from the article.
Exactly 30 months later, in March 1979, history shows a Treaty between Israel and Egypt was signed. The Camp David Accord. History shows talks broke down on the 12th day and no Treaty was to be signed. Begin and Sadat were leaving. It was on the 13th Day, as in the date of the 1976 article and the picture accompanying it, an unexpected window of opportunity appeared and opened the way for the Treaty to be signed.
This signified the Universal Brotherhood part of the quote.
The 1979 Iranian Revolution happened in the 29th month, and the MSM is projecting these 49 Years later the US and Israel are opting for the Destruction part of the 1976 prophecy unless you do something to stop it.
On All Souls' Day, November 2, 1976, the KC Times published a follow-up with me standing at Kansas City's Liberty Memorial. Exactly seven years to the month later, November 20, 1983, the world watched The Day After - the harrowing TV movie depicting Kansas City's nuclear annihilation of all the major US Cities where the movie could have been shot. In the film's most haunting scene, the camera pauses at the very spot where I had stood 7 years earlier as published by The Kansas City Times.
Today, we have arrived at that prophetic crossroad:
The execution-style killings in Gaza, forensically documented
Project 2025's alarming blueprint for authoritarian rule
Escalating tensions that could trigger war with Iran
The lyrics of the cover band echoing through that Kansas City hotel lobby in 1976 - "Someone's knocking at the door... Open the door and let 'em in" - takes on new meaning in 2025. Will we choose the path of Brotherhood through justice and accountability? Or will we fulfill the other half of the 1976 prophecy through destruction?
The knocking at the door in the Revelation of Jesus Christ 3:10 grows louder. The choice before you now will determine whether America's "days are numbered" or whether we'll witness another 13th-day redemption. You ignore this Warning at your own peril.
Yes we all know. We are seeing it live in the internet by conscientious bloggers for the past 15 months in Gaza and 2 plus years in the Ukraine/Russia debacle. Its a world wide holocaust on civilians by the empire and its allies (NATO/Israel). Played for by our tax dollars and Nat'l debt
I was curious about the development of the rather modern concept, that harming foreign civilians in the area of operation might be a BUG rather than an attractive FEATURE in warfare.
You know the old joke, "NO, you dummies! FIRST you rape, THEN you loot & pillage, THEN you burn!"
Considering that logistics formerly consisted of living off the land, (ie, stealing food from local peasants) while "combat pay" consisted mostly of plunder, with abusing foreign civilians, torturing townsmen until they revealed where they hid valuables, rape & murder standing in for entertainment before the USO appeared?
I asked the AI when a professional military first codified such an idea, that (foreign) civilians should not be killed during an invasion. What came back was rather later than I expected?
US civil war (Union side), The Lieber Code (General Orders No. 100, April 24, 1863).
Chivalry during the Middle Ages. The idea that women and children should be protected. Also Hugo Grotius on the Law of War and Peace (1625), which I think tried to restrain the worst excesses of "rape, pillage, burn."
Thank you, I took a quick look at Grotius, will go back for the rest later-
Having read something of the behavior of armies on all sides during the 30 years war (and watched "The Last Valley"), Hugo Grotius may have been honored largely in the breech?
"The Last Valley" is an overlooked minor masterpiece of the horrors of the 30 years war and the savagery that was such a part of it. Thank you Billy for mentioning it as I saw it when it first came out and made a lasting impression on me of the truer nature of war.
There was, for a few centuries (early/middle ages) the "Peace of God/Truce of God" which made an attempt to limit some of the violence against non-combatants and the monastic orders. From an entry in Wikipedia:
"The Peace of God or Pax Dei was a proclamation of the local clergy that granted immunity from violence to noncombatants who could not defend themselves, starting with the peasants (agricolae) and the clergy. The Synod of Charroux decreed a limited Pax Dei in 989, and the practice spread to most of Western Europe over the next century,[16] surviving in some form until at least the thirteenth century.
Under the Peace of God are included:
consecrated persons — clerics, monks, virgins, and cloistered widows;
consecrated places — churches, monasteries, and cemeteries, with their dependencies;
consecrated times — Sundays, and ferial days, all under the special protection of the Church, which punishes transgressors with excommunication.[17]
At an early date the councils extended the Peace of God to the Church's protégés, the poor, pilgrims, crusaders, and even merchants on a journey. The peace of the sanctuary gave rise to the right of asylum.[17]
I will note that the Pax Dei was not sufficient to protect an archbishop of Canterbury from being murdered by belted knights within his own cathedral, although the perpetrators were effectively banished for life after.
Training people to kill people is always going to end badly in every way imaginable.
Hello Denise... Hopefully We will not find out.... Civil, and Religious Wars are the Worst... The MAGAs check both Boxes...
Great point about the religious aspect, Apache. Hadn't thought of that, but yes, a double whammy, for sure.
U.S. citizens have been at the "pointy end" for almost 200 years - democracy comes from the end of a gun. The State is the enforcement arm of business. Business and govt are the durable entities, the grain and straw - citizens are the chaff.
Can't really argue with that, Kathleen, as bleak a picture as you paint.
Hugo Sim's book and Chris Hedges Books The Greatest Evil is War should be mandatory reading before recruits sign up for the military. Further they should be examined on it to see if they understand.
Like Gen. Tommy Franks said, "We don't do body counts".
They don't care.

Surely the concept occurred to some commander before this date? Can anyone find an earlier military code/general order along these lines?

Thank you for the additional history, I will follow up on this as well-
