Well, you know, I worry that such is the way of the world, too, but if that’s how I see the future, then I might as well give up, take what I can right now, and pack in hope for the future.

Problem is, new people coming along need to learn those leasons, too. We need to teach them the history. We WERE teaching them the history. Someone who doesn't want us to know history is trying to stop that … If we don’t resist … Well, you know the history.

My theory (I know I'm repeating myself) is that each generation has to learn for itself because it believes it is smarter than the previous generation. Anyone who doubts this has never raised a teenager.
I have the strong feeling you are both saying the same (or nearly the same) thing using different words, and I agree with both of you. The obstacle preventing us from achieving anything like what you describe is what we call Congress. Not the building, just the people in it. The present inhabitants of that building are not going to let you reform the present economic system because it serves them well.
If you want to reform the system, you need to focus first on reforming those who make the rules. Your first priority should be the reform or removal of all those in Congress who obstruct any effort to reform the system.
Never forget. Only the rule makers make the rules. If the rule makers are unwilling to reform the system according to popular demand, the people need to change the rule makers.
Until we have a majority in Congress who are willing to reform the system, all other reform efforts a total waste of energy.
I can only say “yes” to that, Karl. And see the hurdles that would need to be overcome. I would hold onto hope if we even got on that road … I’m not sure what your definition of democratic socialism is, but mine includes entrepreneurial opportunities and private ownership of businesses, but with structures that build in fair apportioning of revenues to owners and labor, and limits on the power of money in our political sphere {money is NOT speech!}. I believe in the right to profit from one intellectual property, as well {I am a writer of books, for instance}. But I know that we ALL are living on a small planet, and the mere fact of being born on one side off a line should not shut people out of the necessities to sustain life. A bit of “common good” needs to be built into our system .. not with a few powerful people running a system that dictates how the rest of us have to live, but with some parameters that we recognize as good for our personal freedom and our societal sustainability.

Agree about history, Pat. As there are fewer and fewer people who remember WWII, the lessons are disappearing. Now, there are fewer who were even taught about that period in history. How many 20-somethings know anything at all about the Civil War? And yes, the erasing of history, like the overall dumbing-down of the population, is quite deliberate and has been in process for decades.
I wish we had an “agree” button. The heart is an “agree” button, I guess, but it seems counter intuitive to “like” or “love” what is such a horrible truth.
But, yes, we are watching a plan unfold to take over and remake out entire culture. I’m very sad.
