The press has been protecting Biden for years. In other words treating him like a child. Now some of them have changed their minds as they see the Democrats might lose the White House. If Biden was clearly winning my guess is that they would still be protecting him. That's what sycophants do. That goes for Clooney as well, as he objects to Biden because he might lose and not because Biden's probably a dementia patient making demented decisions like bringing the world to the edge of nuclear annihilation.

I saw that you mentioned Clooney and soon after he was in the New York Times! You're clearly in sync with the universe.

Maybe the wrong universe, though. :-)

Being in sync with this one is disturbing ...

I have no sympathy for Biden. He may be a faltering old man with dementia but he's a beast. His actions only in the last four years -without even going into all that came before - has supported a genocide in Gaza, and with the NATO lemmings, has pushed the world to what looks like an inevitable major war with Russia with all its frightening destruction and horrors.

The slow buildup of calls for him to resign this week now feels like a tumbril ride on the way to the Place de la Revolution. Today's press conference is him meeting Madame Guillotine. He deserves nothing better.

I agree, TomR. It's somewhat disturbing that the only reason Dems seem willing to put him out to pasture is because they can no longer hide his cognitive decline. It's the entirety of his career that should be more carefully scrutinized. His unquestioned allegiance to corporate / oligarchic hegemony, his murderous war-mongering, the dishonesty in their pursuit, his racism and disdain for all the folk whom he claims to represent... That's his legacy. He can only hope he doesn't add to that sad record, responsibility for nuclear Armageddon.

Roger, yep - that's my fear too: the final act in his record could be the end of all of us.

I would vote for Williamson only as a protest vote. She would not make a good president (although anything is better than Biden). RFK Jr. would also make a terrible president. But considering that Biden and Trump are the current "choices", Williamson and Kennedy seem somewhat less horrible (somewhat)., but that is not saying much. The problem with the US is that the oligarchs run everything (literally) and they aren't going to let anyone even as moderate as Bernie get on the ballots. In fact, the two Color Teams are making ballot access harder and harder, and now it requires that you have billionaire backing. Without billionaires on your side, you are going nowhere (unless, of course, you are also a billionaire).

I read and watched. It is all about America for progressives. Clooney and Williamson as a preferred choice? The world, as our home, wasn’t mentioned at all. Americans may believe that they matter more than the rest of humanity. EU is being for stationing of American midrange missiles for potential attacks on Russia. That is an existential threat for Europeans and it didn’t enter into the discussion. Where are the “progressive voices on that issue? This whole discussion reveals a kind of narcissism that is more corrosive than the respective domestic positions of the current front runners. When will people begin to realize that this bickering is a distraction of the real issue: the looming threat of nuclear confrontation and the potential end of mankind or most of mankind. This is insanity.

Anybody want to bet on when America’s MICCIMATT will get its third War to go along with Ukraine and Gaza? ... :

NATO ALLIES CALL CHINA A ‘DECISIVE ENABLER’ OF RUSSIA’S WAR IN UKRAINE by Didi Tang / AP 10 Jul 24

WASHINGTON (AP) — In their most serious rebuke against Beijing, NATO allies on Wednesday called China a “decisive enabler” of Russia’s war against Ukraine and expressed concerns over Beijing’s nuclear arsenal and its capabilities in space.

The sternly worded final communiqué, approved by the 32 NATO members at their summit in Washington, makes clear that CHINA IS BECOMING A FOCUS OF THE MILITARY ALLIANCE. The European and North American members and their partners in the Indo-Pacific increasingly see shared security concerns coming from Russia and its Asian supporters, especially China.

Beijing insists that it does not provide military aid to Russia but has maintained strong trade ties with its northern neighbor throughout the conflict. It also accuses NATO of overreaching and inciting confrontation in the Indo-Pacific region.

In the communiqué, NATO member countries said China has become a war enabler through its “no-limits partnership” with Russia and its large-scale support for Russia’s defense industrial base.

“This increases the threat Russia poses to its neighbors and to Euro-Atlantic security. We call on the PRC, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council with a particular responsibility to uphold the purposes and principles of the U.N. Charter, to cease all material and political support to Russia’s war effort,” read the communiqué, which referred to China by the abbreviation of its official name, the People’s Republic of China.

What NATO ALLIES are calling "...RUSSIA’S WAR IN UKRAINE" is projection, of course. For the only reason that there is war in Ukraine is because the U.S. sought and pushed it, and NATO of course embraced it. It is the U.S.' and NATO's war. It's not really even Ukraine's war. Zelensky was just a dupe willing to burn up Ukrainian lives for vague promises of being part of the western elites' club.

You nailed it 100%, Roger. America's plan for a War with Russia in Ukraine kicked off in 2014 with the Coup. And it has worked perfectly ever since.

WOW! Marianne Williamson just blew me away! I have always liked her, but somehow always voted for someone else, now I hope she's on the ballot so I can vote for her. She is clear and explicit, she understands exactly what is going on and who and what is behind it, she has the strength that apparently too many people in congress do NOT have, which is to speak out and tell the unvarnished truth. We need her badly. She has clear vision and knows what needs to be changed. Thanks for that video, Bill - her words were an epiphany.

Well if the White House Dr had given a truthful diagnosis of Bidens lack of brain waves we might not be headed to Armageddon. When the 'shrooms start popping up from the cities we can all blame him.

It's significant that a big topic is which of the big donors is going to stick with Joe and which will not. Money is what our corrupt system is all about so if you are Abigail Disney, for example, everyone wants to talk to you because your power is recognized. Remember all the Republican candidates rushing to see Sheldon Adelson for his blessing? For ancient Rome it was the military that ended up installing this or that person as Caesar and then deposing the occupant when desired. Today, big donors have lots of power to put a person into the Presidency and we may now see that they have the power to depose as well.

Permit me to share the most profoundly thought-provoking piece i have read in a long, Long time... :

THE TRUTH LOVER'S PRAYER by Caitlin Johnstone 11 July 2024

May I see the truth, especially the truth I don’t want to see.

May I see the truth everywhere — in my world, in my nation, in my community, in my family, and in myself — especially in the places I’d prefer not to look.

May I see the truth, even when it hurts.

May I see the truth, even when it’s embarrassing.

May I see the truth, even if it means I was wrong.

May I see the truth, even when it conflicts with my image of myself.

May I see the truth, even when it disrupts my partisan biases and tribalistic loyalties.

May I see the truth, even when it means I’ll have to tear down my entire worldview and build a whole new one — with all the discomfort and disorientation that comes with this.

May I see the truth, even if it means I’ll have to get rid of some part of myself that I hold tightly and treasure deeply.

May I see the truth, even when it contradicts beliefs, values and core parts of my identity that I don’t yet know how to live without.

May I see the truth, even when it means having to go through life with a much greater sense of alienation in this society.

May I see the truth, even if it will permanently damage my view of people I currently love and respect.

May I see the truth, even if it means having to walk away from plans, dreams, and long-sought goals.

May I see the truth, even if it means I’ll have to change my career to be at peace with myself.

May I see the truth, even if it will end my relationship.

May I see the truth, even if it means living in a world that is more painful, cruel or complicated than the world I thought I was living in.

May I see the truth, even if it means I’ll have to burn down my whole life and start over again.

May I see the truth, even if it means losing my entire identity.

May I see the truth, especially the truths I’ve spent my whole life running away from.

May I see the truth, especially the truths I am convinced I will die if I see.

May I see the truth, especially the truths which can only be seen if I let go of things I’ve been clinging onto as though my life depends on it.

May I see the truth, so that the whole of my being may be shaped and guided by its light.

May I see the truth, everywhere, on all levels and in all aspects, in every part of my being, come what may.

Amen.

The article of faith "Joe is the only way to defeat evil" is insubstantial!

Expand full comment

The question is: Who do the Democrats have that CAN defeat that "evil"?

Expand full comment

Realistically - no one.

If Biden drops out or is pushed, the next story line will be "Michelle, ma belle" until that finally dissolves. Then it'll be Harris/whoever and the inevitable accepted defeat so that will push her out of the way for 2028 (if the world is still around then).

Though, I'm still waiting for Clinton to rise from the crypt and flap her leathery wings one last time and offer herself up as one whose turn it still is. I wouldn't mind seeing her humiliated one last time for at least what she did to Libya and Syria.
